Why Online Video is Good for Your Business

The internet gives your business the potential to reach a wider audience. Whether people are surfing the net on their phones, iPads or laptops, they are using it to check for businesses offering products and services they want. What are you doing to lead them to your website and to keep them engaged? People prefer to watch a video than read text on a website. It takes less time, is more engaging and gets the information out to people more effectively. Videos also create powerful emotional responses. This helps to get your video shared with an even wider audience. Video tells a story about your business, which helps people remember you. Video production is also more affordable than most think. You own your video and choose when and where to show it, at the frequency you like. Compare this to expensive cable ads that limit views by only airing your ad at specific times. N Tune Video Production can produce a video that caters to your audience, grabs their attention and gets them interested in your business. Compelling Reasons for Businesses to Use Social Video

Over the holiday weekend I read several ReelSEO articles rich with facts regarding social video. I summarized the top two, which illustrate one undeniable fact. Businesses need to get the jump on incorporating social video into their marketing strategies.

Last year YouTube had some amazing statistics and this year they topped the charts. In some cases they more than doubled last years record. Here are some incredible facts:

  • (Traffic Stats) Globally, 800 million people use YouTube each month.
  • (Traffic Stats) 72 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute. Last year 35 hours of  video was uploaded per minute.
  • (Monetization Stats) 3 billion hours of video are viewed each month. That's 1 billion more than last year.
  • (Product Metrics) Mobile devices account for 600 million views per day.
  • (Product Metrics) Tens of millions of websites have a YouTube player embedded in them.
  • (Social Stats) Over 700 YouTube videos are shared each minute on Twitter.
  • (Social Stats) 100 million people take a social action on YouTube, such as comments, likes and shares.
Statistics like these show that business owners can gain a competitive edge over businesses NOT using social video. The trend shows more than double-fold increases of people using video to interact with each other. Businesses can use social video to communicate their products and services easily and clearly. (ReelSEO, YouTube Statistics).

Another fascinating statistic by the Cisco Visual Networking Index indicates that mobile video makes up more than 50% of all wireless traffic, and this percentage is growing. According to Cisco's index, " Mobile video will increase 25-fold between 2011 and 2016, accounting for over 70 percent of total mobile data traffic by the end of the forecast period." (ReelSEO, Mobile Video is 50% Of All Wireless Traffic).

After reading about facts like these, it's hard to imagine how businesses will be able to remain competitive WITHOUT incorporating social video into their marketing plans. The articles I've reviewed made it very clear. Business owners can chose to remain visible in the marketplace with online videos, or they can choose to be forgotten.

Social Video: Research Shows an Emerging Trend

Unruly Media conducted research on the effectiveness of social video advertising. They concluded that viewers will recall a brand name and engage with an ad’s message if the video was recommended to them. They mean recommendations that come in the form of Facebook shares, likes or recommendations stemming from generated conversations. They also come from blogs and news articles regarding the video content.
  • Brand recall and brand association rose 7 percent among viewers who had been recommended the videos versus viewers who found it by browsing;
  • 73 percent of respondents who viewed a recommended video recalled the brand when prompted versus 68 percent of viewers who had browsed to the video directly;
  • There was a 14 percent increase in the number of people who enjoyed the video following a recommendation versus those who had discovered it by browsing;
  • People who enjoyed a video were 97 percent more likely to purchase the product featured in the video;
  • There was a 14% increase in the number of people who enjoyed the video following a recommendation versus those who had discovered it by browsing. Moreover, a recommendation reduced the number of people who did not enjoy the video by 41% (see chart below).

Social Media's Impact on Referrals

I had an experience that reminded of the importance of engaging in social media for your business' sake. I had taken a sandwich home and after a bite I pulled out a long hair from my mouth, which immediately made me lose my appetite. After I called the shop the next thing I did was open my facebook and post about the negative experience. Later in the day when I looked back at the initial post I saw it had been commented on, liked, shared and so on.

Social media is like the pond, the business is the stone, and the experiences (good or bad) are the ripples that reverberate throughout that pond. Opinions are formed and information is shared. People trust business referrals from their social media sites than they do advertisements from those businesses. Social Media is no longer about chatting with your friends. It’s about driving business. You can either give them something good to talk about or you can be passive to what is being said.

You can quickly and clearly get a message across about your business by using video in social media. Video is more cost effective than radio or print ads and you can use your video indefinitely, posting when and where you want at no additional charge. One way to use video in social media is to have a video testimonial of your customers. Consumers can tell when they’re being fed a well-scripted line. In contrast, they can also tell when a person is speaking on their own accord. By having your customers produce video testimonials, you let them put their feelings and thoughts into their own words. The result is a much more organic video clip that can be utilized in a number of ways. More importantly, viewers will appreciate this openness, and it could help your business develop a greater sense of trust with your prospective customers.

How Youtube Can Help Your Business

ReelSEO, as always, put out an amazing article on how using Youtube can help your business. Youtube has rolled out amazing incentives to get you started. Namely, "YouTube is giving away $50 million in free Google AdWords advertising to help 500,000 businesses to get into video. If advertisers are new to AdWords, they can receive a $75 credit toward video advertising when they sign up for AdWords for video. To put that into context, with $75 their video campaign can reach more than 1,500 of their most valuable customers on YouTube for one month." Check it out!
